1. <\/span><\/strong>Was war f\u00fcr dich \u00fcberraschend oder neu, als du hier angekommen bist?
\n<\/span><\/strong>What was surprising or new to you when you arrived here?<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span>
\n<\/i><\/span><\/span>Die Lebensmittel. Man findet nicht dieselben Produkte und Zutaten wie in Frankreich. Ich vermisse Meeresfr\u00fcchte. Und am Sonntag sind hier fast alle Gesch\u00e4fte geschlossen. Das ist in Frankreich auch so, aber es gibt sonntags M\u00e4rkte. Wenn du nichts mehr im K\u00fchlschrank hast, bekommst du hier frische Produkte. Das mag ich!
\nDas Bezahlen mit Kreditkarte wie Visa oder Mastercard wird im Alltag selten akzeptiert. In den meisten Superm\u00e4rkten kann man mit EC-Karte bezahlen, aber nicht mit Kreditkarte. Auch im Internet ist das oft nicht m\u00f6glich. Das ist in Frankreich ganz normal. In Deutschland habe ich zu viel Kleingeld.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n\"Bild<\/a><\/span>
\n Auch einige Unterschiede bei Vertr\u00e4gen haben mich \u00fcberrascht. In Frankreich ist der Verbraucherschutz sehr stark. Abonnements muss ich jedes Jahr erneuern. Hier erneuert es sich automatisch und man muss k\u00fcndigen, wenn man das Abo nicht mehr m\u00f6chte. Das finde ich nicht gut.<\/span>
\n Telefon- und Internetvertr\u00e4ge sind in Deutschland viel teurer als in meiner Heimat. <\/span><\/span><\/span>Au\u00dferdem war ich \u00fcberrascht, dass man seinen M\u00fcll st\u00e4rker trennt. Es gibt vier verschiedene Tonnen: Restm\u00fcll, Biom\u00fcll, Recycling-Stoffe und Papier. Dazu kommt Altglas, dass man in einen Container in seinem Viertel wirft.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>
\nThe groceries. <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span>You don\u2019t find the same products and ingredients like in France. I miss the seafood. And on Sundays nearly all shops are closed. This is the same for France but there are food markets on Sundays. If you don\u2019t have anything in your fridge you get fresh products here. I like that!<\/span>
\n Only few restaurants and shops accept payment with Visa and MasterCard. In most of the supermarkets you can pay with\u00a0EC card but not with Visa Card.\u00a0Also\u00a0in Internet it is often not possible to pay with credit card.\u00a0In France it’s very normal to use\u00a0your credit card everywhere.\u00a0In Germany I have too many coins and small money with me.<\/span>
\n Some differences\u00a0in terms of\u00a0contracts surprised me as well. In France the consumer protection is very strong. If I have a subscription and it is expiring I have to keep it. Here it goes on automatically and I have to cancel it if I don\u2019t want the subscription any longer. I don\u2019t like that.<\/span>
\n I was also surprised that you separate your rubbish more. There are four different bins: general rubbish, organic waste, recyclable waste and paper. And glass for recycling that you have to throw into a container in your part of town.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i>

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i>Ich mag die saisonalen Gem\u00fcse und Fr\u00fcchte, die man \u00fcberall kaufen kann. Himbeeren, Erdbeeren, Blaubeeren, Pilze, auch Pfifferlinge. Pilze und Spargel sind hier viel billiger als in Frankreich. Es gibt kleine St\u00e4nde in der Stadt, wo man all das kaufen kann.
\nIch mag es sehr, dass Hannover so eine gr\u00fcne Stadt ist. Hier gibt es einen Wald mitten in der Stadt \u2013 toll!
\nHier kann man ganz gut Rad fahren. Die Stadt hat Radwege und Fahrr\u00e4der geh\u00f6ren zum Stadtbild.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
\nI like the seasonal vegetables and fruits that you can buy everywhere in town. Raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, mushrooms, also chanterelles. Mushrooms and aspargus are much cheaper here than in France. There are little stands in town at which you can buy all that.
\nI like it a lot that Hanover is such a green city. There is a forest in the town \u2013 great!
\nYou can go by bike very well here. There are bike paths and bikes belong to the townscape.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i>

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i>-Wieder das Essen: Das franz\u00f6sische Baguette! Ich mag aber auch Vollkornbrot.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i>Ich mag die Weihnachtsm\u00e4rkte in Hannover und Goslar. Der Weihnachtsmarkt gef\u00e4llt mir, weil es ein Ort ist, wo sich die Leute begegnen und sich unterhalten. Es ist nicht nur kommerziell.
\nMeine Reise nach Dessau war wunderbar. Ich interessiere mich sehr f\u00fcr Bauhaus-Architektur. Im Bauhaus konnte ich sogar \u00fcbernachten! Eine tolle M\u00f6glichkeit.<\/span><\/span><\/span>
\nI like the Christmas markets in Hanover and Goslar. I like the Christmas market because it’s a place where people meet and talk. It’s not only commercial.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span>My trip to Dessau was great. I’m interested in Bauhaus architechture. In the Bauhaus, I could even stay overnight! This was a really good opportunity.<\/span>

\n<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/strong>What should you have done differently in the beginning? Do you have hints for expats\u00a0who\u00a0just arrived in Germany?<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i>Ich w\u00fcrde mir fr\u00fcher ein Fahrrad kaufen. Ich habe mir erst nach sechs Monaten eins gekauft. Mit dem Fahrrad kann man alles sehr bequem erreichen, besonders im Sommer.
\nIch w\u00fcrde jedem empfehlen, Deutsch f\u00fcr den Alltag zu lernen. Man braucht nicht fl\u00fcssig zu sprechen, aber eine Basis, um Dinge zu kaufen und ins Restaurant zu gehen, ist wichtig. Nach meiner Erfahrung sind die Leute froh dar\u00fcber. Manchmal beginne ich ein Gespr\u00e4ch auf Deutsch, und wenn es kompliziert wird, sprechen wir auf Englisch weiter.
\nF\u00fcr den Sommer empfehle ich auch die Terassen und Bierg\u00e4rten, dort findet man (im Gegensatz zu Paris) leicht einen Platz.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n I would buy a bike in the beginning, not just six months after arrival. By bike you can reach all places in comfort, especially in summer.<\/span>
\n I would recommend to study basic German for daily life. You don’t need to be fluent but having a basis to buy things and to go to the restaurant is important. In my experience people appreciate it. Sometimes I start a conversation in German and when it gets difficult we switch to English.<\/span>
\n For summertime I also recommend the restaurant terraces and beer gardens, it’s easy to find a seat there (compared to Paris).<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span>
