1. Was war f\u00fcr dich \u00fcberraschend oder neu, als du hier angekommen bist?<\/strong>
\nWhat was surprising or new to you when you arrived here?<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/i>Ich war \u00fcberrascht, dass man auch mit Schuhen ins Schlafzimmer gehen kann. Das finde ich schmutzig und ich kann es nicht leiden, wenn jemand mit Schuhen in mein Zimmer kommt und in der N\u00e4he vom Bett herumgeht.<\/span><\/span> (Anmerkung: In Japan zieht man im Haus immer die Schuhe aus.)<\/span><\/span>
\nUnd dass man im Restaurant Essen, das man nicht aufessen kann, einpacken lassen und mit nach Hause nehmen kann. Das ist in Japan gar nicht \u00fcblich.
\n<\/span>I was surprised that you can also go into the bedroom with your shoes on. That seems dirty to me and I don’t like it if somebody comes into my room with shoes on and walks around near the bed. (Remark: In Japan it is mandatory to take off the shoes.)
\nAnd that in a restaurant if you have leftovers you can let them wrap and take them home. This is not common at all in Japan.<\/span><\/i>

2. Was genie\u00dft du in Deutschland?<\/strong>
\nWhat do you enjoy in Germany?<\/strong>
\n<\/i>Deutsche B\u00fccher, die ich in der Heimat nicht lesen kann, verschiedene Biersorten und sch\u00f6ne St\u00e4dte.<\/span><\/span> Kiel ist meine Lieblingsstadt. Dort habe ich promoviert und sie liegt am Meer, was in Deutschland ja eine Ausnahme ist. Und M\u00f6lln mag ich auch sehr, weil es eine Eulenspiegel-Stadt ist und noch viele H\u00e4user aus seiner Zeit hat.
\nI enjoy reading German books that I cannot read back home, tasting different kinds of beer and visiting beautiful towns. My favourite town is Kiel. This is where I wrote my thesis and it is situated at the seaside which is exceptional in Germany. And I also like M\u00f6lln very much because it is an \u201eEulenspiegel\u201c town and still has a lot of houses from his time.<\/i><\/p>\n

3. Was hast du am meisten vermisst?

\n<\/span><\/i>Ich habe es vermisst, i<\/span>n japanischer Schrift zu lesen. Damals habe ich fast alle japanischen B\u00fccher gerne gelesen, die ich bekommen habe. Ich habe die Schrift und die Sprache sehr vermisst.
\n<\/span>I missed reading the Japanese characters. To that time I read nearly all Japanese books that I received with pleasure. I missed Japanese characters and language very much.<\/span><\/i>

\n<\/i><\/span><\/strong>What\u2019s your favourite place here?<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/i>In Kiel: <\/span>Die Kieler Linie \u2013 das ist ein Weg entlang der Kieler Bucht, wo ich immer innere Ruhe finden kann; au\u00dferdem <\/span><\/span>die Kieler Str\u00e4nde und der Hafen. Und die Kieler Brauerei.
\nIn Kiel: The Kieler Linie \u2013 this is a path along the bay where I can always find inner peace; besides that the Kieler beaches and the harbour. And the Kieler Brauerei, the local brewery.

\n<\/i>5. Was\u00a0h\u00e4ttest du am Anfang anders machen sollen? Hast du Tipps f\u00fcr Menschen, die neu\u00a0nach Deutschland kommen?
\n<\/i><\/strong>What should you have done differently in the beginning? Do you have hints for people\u00a0who\u00a0just arrived in Germany?<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/i>Ich <\/i>h\u00e4tte sofort ein Fahrrad kaufen sollen.
\nWenn ich an meinen Kontakt mit \u00c4mtern denke, habe ich eines erfahren: Individualismus. Wenn ein Zust\u00e4ndiger Urlaub nimmt, dann erledigen\u00a0seine Kollege\u00a0im gleichen B\u00fcro nicht seine Aufgaben.\u00a0Man muss nicht selten umsonst ein paar Wochen auf die Antwort auf\u00a0wichtige Fragen\u00a0warten, einfach weil “der Zust\u00e4ndige zurzeit im Urlaub ist”. Das h\u00e4tte ich vorher wissen sollen.

\nThinking of the moments of interaction with offices I experienced one thing: individualism. If a responsable is on holidays the collegues do not replace him and work on his tasks. It is not unusual that you have to wait several weeks in vain for important questions to be answered because the \u201eresponsable is on holidays at the moment\u201c. That’s what I should have known before.<\/i>

\n<\/i>6<\/i>. Was ist dein hei\u00dfester Tipp zum Deutschlernen? Was hat f\u00fcr dich am besten funktioniert?
\n<\/i>What is your top hint to learn G<\/i><\/strong>erman? What worked best for you?<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/i>Deutsche Freunde zu haben und m\u00f6glichst wenig Kontakt mit Landsleuten zu haben, mit denen man nicht Deutsch spricht. Dann muss man sich immer auf Deutsch ausdr\u00fccken – \u00dcbung macht den Meister. <\/span><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span>Besonders f\u00fcr meine Landsleute, Japaner, empfehle ich, regelm\u00e4\u00dfig eine Kneipe zu besuchen. Deutsches Bier kann ein Gottesgeschenk f\u00fcr uns, scheue Rehe, sein. So k\u00f6nnen wir ohne Hemmungen und Z\u00f6gern Deutsch zu sprechen, ohne Angst vor grammatischen Fehlern.<\/span><\/span>
\n<\/span><\/span>Having German friends and being as little as possible in contact with countrymen that you don’t speak German with. Then you always have to express yourself in German \u2013 practice makes perfect.
\nEspecially for my countrymen, Japanese, I recommend to regularly go to a pub. German beer can be a gift of god for us timid fawns. Like that we can speak German without inhibition or hesitation, and without fearing grammar mistakes.<\/span><\/span><\/i>

\n<\/i>Which is your favourite word in German?<\/i> <\/strong>
\n\u201eSchleunigst\u201c. Das Wort klingt mir einfach sch\u00f6n und seine Bedeutung finde ich f\u00fcr unser Leben sehr wichtig, denn es ist ganz kurz und einmalig. Z\u00f6gere nicht und tu es genau jetzt!<\/span><\/span>
\n\u201eSchleunigst\u201c (\u201estraight away\u201c). The word sounds simply beautiful to me and I think its meaning is very important for our life as it is very short and unique. <\/i>Don\u2018t hesitate and just do it right now!<\/i><\/span><\/span> <\/i><\/p>\n
