\n1. Was war f\u00fcr dich \u00fcberraschend oder neu, als du hier angekommen bist?<\/strong>
\n<\/span>What was surprising or new to you when you arrived here?<\/em><\/strong>
\n<\/span>Das nicht jeder Englisch sprechen kann. Weil Englisch und Deutsch zur gleichen Sprachfamilie geh\u00f6ren, hatte ich mir etwas Anderes vorgestellt.
\nThat not everybody speaks English. As English and German belong to the same language familiy I had expected things to be different.<\/em>

2. Was genie\u00dft du hier?<\/strong>
\n<\/span>What do you enjoy here?<\/strong>
\n<\/em><\/span>Alles. Ich sage immer, ich bin schon l\u00e4ngere Zeit weit weg von meiner Heimat; das bedeutet, ich muss mich hier wohl f\u00fchlen, denn wenn umsonst w\u00e4re, w\u00e4re ich schon ausgewandert.
\nEverything. I always say, I have already been far from home for a longer time; this means I have to feel comfortable, because if I would be here for nothing, I would already have emigrated.<\/em><\/p>\n

3. Was vermisst du am meisten?<\/strong>
\n<\/span>What do you miss most?<\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/em><\/span>Familie und Freunde. Aber sie kann ich leider nicht mitnehmen. Das N\u00e4chste auf der Liste ist das Essen und das\u00a0 besorgen mir meine Eltern… Jedes Jahr zu Weihnachten kriege ich einen 23 kg schweren Koffer mit bestimmten spanischen Produkten: Wein, Jamon Iberico, Morcilla und K\u00e4se. Jedes Mal, wenn ich das etwas von alledem esse, ist es so, wie in Spanien zu sein.
\nFamily and friends. Unfortunately I cannot take them with me. The next point on my list is food and this is what my parents care for… Every year for Christmas I get a 23-kilo suitcase with certain Spanish products: wine, Jamon Iberico, Morcilla and cheese. Each time I eat something of all that is like being in Spain.<\/em>

\n4. Was ist dein Lieblingsort?<\/strong>
\n<\/span>What\u2019s your favourite place here?<\/em><\/strong>
\n<\/span><\/span>Schwierige Frage…ich habe viele Lieblingsorte. Aber sie sind immer mit Leuten verbunden, mit denen ich dort war, zum Beispiel M\u00fcnchen oder Hannover.
\nDifficult question…I have a lot of favourite places. But they are always linked to people that were with me, like Munich or Hanover.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

5. Was\u00a0h\u00e4ttest du am Anfang anders machen sollen?<\/strong>\u00a0Hast du Tipps f\u00fcr Expats, die neu\u00a0nach Deutschland kommen?<\/strong>
\nWhat should you have done differently in the beginning? Do you have hints for expats\u00a0who\u00a0just arrived in Germany?<\/em><\/strong>
\n<\/span>Erstens: Nicht ohne Deutsch nach Deutschland zu kommen. Ich hatte zwei Monate lang jeden Tag Kopfschmerzen, weil ich mich so sehr bem\u00fcht habe, etwas auf Deutsch zu verstehen und am Ende leider nicht zu\u00a0 verstehen.
\nAu\u00dferdem habe ich zu lange gewartet, um mit den Leuten auf Deutsch zu sprechen, aber genau beim S\u00e4tze bilden und formulieren entwickelt man sich sehr weiter… Also bitte beginnt so fr\u00fch wie m\u00f6glich mit “trial and error”. Die Deutschen werden dir auf jeden Fall helfen, dein Deutsch zu verbessern.
\nZweitens:\u00a0<\/span>Viel fragen! Es gibt viele Leute, die schon die gleichen Probleme wie du hatten und sie bestanden haben. Und sie sind froh, dir helfen zu k\u00f6nnen.
\nFirst of all: Not to come to Germany without German language. I was having hadaches for two months every day because I made so many efforts to understand something in German and in the end unfortunately didn’t.
\nBesides, I waited to long until I spoke to other people in German, but it’s excactly when building senctences and trying to express yourself that you develop your skills… So please start as soon as possible with “trial and error”.
\nGerman people will in any case help you improving your German.
\nSecondly: Ask a lot! There are many people who already had the same problems like you and survived. And they will be happy to help you.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

6. Was ist dein hei\u00dfester Tipp zum Deutschlernen? Was hat f\u00fcr dich am besten funktioniert?<\/strong>
\nWhat is your top hint to learn German? What worked best for you?<\/em><\/strong>
\n<\/span>Man muss zuerst alle Grundkenntnisse haben (Artikel, Kasus, Verben …) und dann selbst \u00fcben. Wenn du Filme magst, guckst du Filme, die du vorher schon angeschaut hast, auf Deutsch mit Untertiteln.
\nFirst of all you have to get all the basics (articles, cases, verbs…) and then practice yourself. If you like films you can watch again all films you have already watched – in German with subtitels.<\/em>
